Walk & Talk: Parsons Woods and Waters in New Portland
Join us for our fifth of a six week Walk & Talk series across Somerset Woods Trustees properties!
Meeting at the parking area past the bridge, we will both navigate off trails and explore some unmaintained woods roads. Terrain is relatively mild, but the tread (footpath) is uneven. Expect that we will be navigating through overgrowth as these trails have not been developed. Boots or sturdy hiking shoes and hiking poles are recommended.
What you can look forward to: exploring one of Somerset Woods newest preserves, community within a quiet pine and hardwood forest, extensive river frontage, and observation of habitat for the imperiled Brook Floater, a rare freshwater mussel.
Walk & Talk: Young Preserve in Concord
Join us for our last of a six week Walk & Talk series across Somerset Woods Trustees properties!
Meeting at the kiosk on Fletcher Mountain Road, we will hike the Mountain Loop and brainstorm ideas about how this loop can be transformed into a more user-friendly experience. We will navigate old woods roads and forested trails, but we may encounter overgrowth. Of all the stewardship walks and talks, this will include the steepest terrain. Boots or sturdy hiking shoes and hiking poles are recommended.
What you can look forward to: exploring the only Somerset Woods wildlife preserve (closed to hunting), a visit to the bog, and an opportunity to share ideas for improving the Mountain Loop experience.
Walk & Talk: Larone Woods in Fairfield
Join us for our fourth of a six week Walk & Talk series across Somerset Woods Trustees properties!
Meeting in the Larone Woods parking area (202 Covell Rd, Fairfield), we will explore established trails on this property. The terrain is relatively mild with uneven footing. Boots or sturdy hiking shoes are recommended.
What you can look forward to: getting to know one of Somerset Woods' more abundant trail systems, views from a new bench by Martin stream, exploring opportunities for cross-country skiing, and tales of conservation in action.
