Protecting our local habitats and ecosystems is important and urgent work. In a race to save species - to save ourselves - the pressure is on to conserve land, connect people with nature, and rebuild a stewardship ethic that embraces diversity and our collective responsibility for the land we share.
The Annual Fund at Somerset Woods provides critical funds to sustain the work we have underway. We are working diligently to build a stronger organization and community. Initiatives underway include:
• land and water access projects in 6 communities from Skowhegan to New Portland to Bingham
• mentoring programs connecting youth with nature as trail builders, horticultural apprentices, and explorers
• conservation and restoration of some of the most biodiverse locations in Somerset County, including habitat for more than 5 imperiled species
• Somerset Woods Share, our community firewood assistance program helping local residents stay warm
