Wesserunsett Stream Preserve: Trail Building 101

  • Wesserunsett Stream Preserve Evergreen Drive Skowhegan, ME, 04976 United States (map)

Join us for an introduction to trail building at Wesserunsett Stream Preserve on National Trails Day!

Rachel Cheatham-McFadden will lead a trail-building how-to that will include leveling and widening tread, removing stumps, eliminating brush, and side-hill digging. Participants will work on the preserve’s yellow trail, which needs a partial relocation due to steep grades and habitat protection.

This event is open to individuals of all ages, but participants should expect physical labor, fun, but sometimes challenging work, and a great time! This event will be followed up with a tailgate potluck.

Tools and personal protective equipment (such as work gloves and eye-protection) will be provided by Somerset Woods Trustees, although participants are encouraged to bring their own if they have them. All participants should expect to sign a waiver upon arrival.

To participate, sign up for this free event email Rachel directly. We ask that all participants RSVP.

Directions: From the downtown Skowhegan areas, follow Route 2 to Malbons Mills Road. Take a left onto Malbons Mills, heading northeast. After about a mile, take a right into the neighborhood on Robin Street. Robin Street will turn into Robin Court shortly after the turn; stay on Robin Court. You will then take a right onto Evergreen Drive. Continue down Evergreen Drive until the pavement ends and you see a blue and green "Somerset Woods Trustees" diamond sign. Continue straight to the end of the road. Park alongside the road.
