Gilman Stream Forest

EAST NEW PORTLAND

Conservation of this thoughtfully managed forest offers the opportunity to protect water quality and recreational access to Gilman Stream and the Carrabassett River.

Conservation here secures a traditional water access point, long used by paddlers for access to Gilman Stream and the Carrabassett.

This project also secures essential connectivity for the snowmobile trail system, with three trail segments on the east and west sides of Gilman Stream.

Both Gilman Stream and the Carrabassett River provide habitat for the imperiled Brook Floater, a rare freshwater mussel. Protection of clean, unaltered watersheds and associated forested riparian areas is necessary for the long-term survival of this species.
