This volunteer event is intended for anyone wanting to engage with a simple construction project. This is a great opportunity for beginners, or someone who just likes to build things. We have space for 6 participants.
The tutorial will be led by Rachel Cheatham-McFadden and take place in the barn or on the deck area at 380 Parkman Hill Farm in Solon. Work space will be limited and work will require participants to sit on the floor, bend over, work in teams, and work in relative close proximity. Participants will have the option to operate power tools (if they are comfortable with it) and build more than 1 bench if they would like.
Somerset Woods Trustees will provide wood and materials needed for construction projects. Finished benches will be stained in warmer weather, and then placed at one of our preserves through the summer.
Participants will need to bring work gloves, closed-toe shoes, and wear long pants. The barn is chilly, so participants should bring layers and perhaps a thermos with a warm drink! All participants should expect to sign a waiver upon arrival.
To participate, sign up for this free event through Skowhegan Outdoors or email Rachel directly (rachel@somersetwoodstrustees.org). We ask that all participants RSVP.
