Black Ash Flower Hunt

  • Wesserunsett Stream Preserve Evergreen Drive Skowhegan, ME 04976 (map)

The purpose of this event is to identify and mark seed-bearing black ash trees for the Somerset Woods Trustees seed collection program. The seed collection program aims to collect seeds from black ash across SWT preserves as a response to the continued spread of emerald ash borer.

Participants should expect to arrive for a quick safety chat, a discussion about black ash flowers and the SWT seed collection program, a short but steep walk down to the black ash stands, and then disperse in teams to different areas to mark trees.

This event is open to individuals of all ages! Participants should wear rubber boots or some other waterproof footwear as the area we will be in may be very wet. If you have a personal pair of binoculars please bring them with you to help identify the correct flowers. All participants should expect to sign a waiver upon arrival.

To participate, sign up for this free event email Emma directly at (americorps@somersetwoodstrustees.org). We ask that all participants RSVP.
