Invasive Species Walk & Talk

  • Kennebec Banks Rest Area 264 Canaan Rd Skowhegan, ME, 04976 United States (map)

Inclement Weather Date: Thursday, February 27 9AM to 11AM

This is an informational walk-and-talk at Kennebec Banks led by Community Tree Steward Emma Hovencamp. We will discuss the impacts invasive plants have, why it's important to be able to recognize them, and talk more about how invasives have affected the property.

This event is suitable for all ages.

Itinerary: We will meet at Kennebec Banks Rest Area at 9 AM. We’ll begin our program with a quick check-in for introductions and a safety chat. Then, we will make our way down along the river. We will identify the invasive plants along the waters edge and discuss more about how invasives are established, their impact on the property’s health, natural communities, and ecosystem functions. The last half hour will be for discussions, where you can find resources, and for answering any questions.

What to Bring: Warm winter clothing, water, and snacks. Be sure to layer and bring shoes that you’ll be able to use in the snow such as hiking or rubber boots. It can get a bit icy so bring footwear that has traction!

To participate, sign up for this free event through Skowhegan Outdoors or email Emma directly. We ask that all participants RSVP.
