Barn & Timber Workday

  • Parkman Hill Farm 380 Parkman Hill Road Solon, ME, 04979 United States (map)

This workday is hosted by Rachel, SWT Stewardship Coordinator, and Emma, SWT Community Tree Steward. Volunteers will be split into groups to either support deconstruction / cleaning of the future stewardship work space with Rachel or splitting wood for Somerset Woods Share, our community firewood program, with Emma. We will use hand and power tools for this event.

This volunteer event is best suited for adults. Volunteer capacity is limited to 4 people.

Itinerary: We will meet at Parkman Hill Farm, 380 Parkman Hill Road in Solon, at 9 AM. We’ll begin our program as a group with a quick check-in for introductions and a safety chat. Then, we will assign roles and begin work.

What to bring: Water, snacks, and perhaps a thermos with a hot drink since we will be working in a barn with no heat or insulation. Leaders will arrive early and bring space heaters to warm the work areas. Dress in layers, including hats, gloves, and warm socks. Bring appropriate footwear, such as work boots. Bring work gloves and coordinate work tools with Rachel. We will need: crow/pry bars, hammers, sledge, mallet, Sawzall, etc.

To participate, sign up for this free event through Skowhegan Outdoors or email Rachel directly. We ask that all participants RSVP.
