Kennebec Banks Guard Rail Replacement

  • Kennebec Banks Rest Area 264 Canaan Road Skowhegan, ME, 04976 United States (map)

The guard rails at Kennebec Banks are rotting out; they need to be replaced! Join us for 1 (or more!) of 4 volunteer sessions between 9/23 and 9/24:

Session 1: Monday 9/23 - 10:30am to 2:30pm
Session 2: Monday, 9/23 - 4pm to 6pm
Session 3: Tuesday, 9/24 - 10:30am to 2:30pm
Session 4: Tuesday, 9/24 - 4pm to 6pm

Monday sessions will focus on ensuring the existing upright posts are ready to receive new laterals and beginning lateral installation: Specific tasks: prying off remaining bits of wood, gathering/disposing of rotted wood and rusty bolts, drilling holes (if necessary) for new bolts, team-lifting hemlock beams, holding beams in place, securing lag bolts.

Tuesday sessions will focus on finishing lateral installation and painting the rails. Specific tasks: team-lifting hemlock beams, holding beams in place, securing lag bolts, re-painting posts and painting lateral beams; should we finish early, additional tasks may include scraping and repainting picnic tables.
