Paddle the West Branch of the Wesserunsett Stream

Enjoy this Spring with a Paddle to Smith Pond May 22nd (Sunday) Launch Time: 9:30 AM West Branch Wesserunsett Stream (Route 150 Skowhegan) Somerset Woods Trustee Eric Lahti will lead this special paddle event up Wesserunsett Stream to Smith Pond. There should be plenty of wildlife to see along the way. This will be an easy paddle, only about 3 miles round trip. We will provide donuts and coffee to get you started but you may wish to pack water and other beverages. Although the guided tour will very likely return to the launching site by noon, you may wish to bring a lunch if you wish to extend your trip. It's always a good idea to bring mosquito repellent, hats and other sun protection. We estimate the entire trip will take about 2.5 to 3 hours. Eric has two extra kayaks and vests that may be borrowed for the paddle. There are no facilities along the route. Directions The launch site is on the West Branch of the Wesserunsett Stream about 2 miles north of the Skowhegan Post Office on Route 150. There is room to park along the road but access to the river can be only one car at a time. The stream is no more than 200 feet from the road but if you wish to drive your car down to stream's edge, please arrive earlier than 9:15 AM and be aware that your car or truck will need high clearance to get over the edge of the pavement.
